Politics

1) Bandwagon: The use of popularity to gain others attention and bring them on board with a certain idea. This is common in sports as well as politics. People will bandwagon teams and politicians alike.

2) Scapegoating: Instead of addressing the problem, you blame the other party. This is used in politics a lot. Politicians will often attack their opponents view points on subjects instead of addressing the problem and giving people their solution.

3) Lesser of two Evils: Convincing people that this choice is bad, but not as bad as the other choice.

4) Down with the Kids: It's kind of like trying to say you're "hip" and that you get where the younger generation are coming from. Most of the time when people say they're hip, they most likely are not.

5) Assertion: Stating something that is just a statement or an opinion, and getting people to believe it is indeed a fact.

6) Transfer: It's pretty much when your feeling for one thing to your feelings on another thing.

7) Omission: The leaving out of small facts which could change the meaning of something completely to further your agenda.

Progress Update

1) Script for interviewer
Intro: We meet today by order of our supreme leader in order to determine who among the population is no longer of use to the advancement of society. Those deemed obsolete will be sentenced to death in a manner to be decided by the overlord.

Question 1: So, Devin lets get right to it, tell us a bit about you.

Question 2: What have you done with your life so far?

Question 3: What are your plans after high school?

Question 4: What do you plan on doing in that field that is useful to society? The overlord is only interested in people who can have an affect right now.

Question 5: Now that I’ve gotten to know you, let me consult the overlord to determine whether you’re obsolete or not.

So Devin, the overlord has determined that you are …(Short pause) not obsolete and that your skills can be used to the benefit of society. Thank you for your time and continue on with your life.

2) No narration.

3) The main element of my video is going to be the interview. In the interview will be short "Flashbacks" of things i've done that relate to the questions i'm answering. There will also be some photos of myself with the short clips.

4) Sound effect:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATz56JZZGRg
Background music (maybe?): Haven't found the perfect one yet.

5) I've spent it working on my script, changing my ideas, creating into/outro slides and looking into music. (Background music is hard to find).

6) Just have film on Chris's camera.

7) My video is mostly going to be an interview with the people who get to decide wether i'm obsolete or not. They ask me questions and i answer them and while im answering them clips of me doing things will be added. It culminates with the interviewer consulting other and then them announcing my fate.

Political Correctness

1) Political correctness should be exactly that, political. Political correctness has its place in politics but in filmmaking it should not even cross the mind of the director. People try way too hard to be politically correct and it can detract from a film.

Movie Response

1) The fact that the Prince lived.
2) Suspenseful: While Westley was in the Pit. Realistic: The child would rather play games than read a book. Humorous: The guy changing voice in the pit. Romantic: The ending.
3) Not really. I enjoyed mysteries. No, i tend to read new novels.
4) Inigo because he is very devout to his cause.
5) Yes, she is often portrayed as helpless without her man. A good man is characterized as being strong, smart, and skilled in many ways.
6) Yes i think it is okay to use disfigured people in movies. They exist, just like everyone else, so why not use their traits to tell stories?
7) Each one of them has their own reasons to push on. Love and revenge are the two most prominent emotions displayed as motivation for character's actions.
8) Yeah i thought it was funny but it was also a bit excessive.
9) Westley was the best at everything. He was smart, excellent with a sword, and good at combat.
10) The change their views of Westley since he has bested them, but they both need him for personal reasons.
11) It is much worse to leave them alive in pain.
12) It adds more to Westley. It explains how he got all his skills and changes his character completely.
13) I think it was a satire since it covers so many different issues in modern society. The title is kind of ironic because you have to be married to be a princess. I think it is more of a piece of children's literature.

Emotions

I think that the video is intended to elicit happiness, excitement and nostalgia.

Movie Endings

1) The ending of Straight Outta Compton was an implicit ending. It ended with Eazy E dying and Dr. Dre leaving his lucrative record company to start his own franchise. This left many questions as to what happened to the rest of the group.

2) I would have had it end with Dr. Dre's new company to show how successful he really became. This would have progressed the characters farther to show them change with their new acquired wealth since most the characters become much more popular than they were when the film ended.

Close Reading: The Last Ship

Characters:
Captain Chandler, Doctor Scott, Enemy captive, Valkerie, and the Immune Brothers. Chandler, Scott, and Valkerie are all protagonists since they're trying to spread the cure. The enemy captive and the immune brothers are antaganists as they hate the navy and are trying to stop them from spreading the cure.

Setting:
The setting is aboard the USS Nathan James, and an oil rig. After the enemy captive tells the immunes that the navy is present, the soldiers on the beach retreat back to the ship. They then raid the oil rig in attempt to capture Valkerie.

Mood:
It is very tense the entire episode until the end when 3 of the navy's soldiers are killed on the oil rig. At this point the mood is very depressed.

Climax:
The climax is when the navy is aboard the oil rig and it comes under attack by RPG fire.

Resolution:
The resolution is the President showing Valkerie what the navy is really about, and how they aren't out to kill everyone.

Title:
In the opening scene, it shows the burning/sinking New Orleans fleet of ships which was just destroyed by the Immune Brothers. It sets the mood for the rest of the episode, which was sad and tense.

Story/Plot/Narrative:
It opens with a few soldiers on the beach helping survivors of the New Orleans fleet. When their captive tells the Immune Supporters there that they soldiers are navy, the soldiers are forced to retreat. They then go onto an oil rig to take over Valkeries broadcasting system. They come under RPG attack by rogue Immunes and lose 3 men.

Motif:
Something that you see often throughout the episode is a close up on the captain. This is because he is stressed and it shows how tense the episode is.

Scene/Set:
The scene is very important. Being on an oil rig adds danger to the show since any attacks could destroy the entire rig very quickly.

A Grand Day Out.

Characters:
The film consisted of three character, wallace, gromit, and skiing robot. Wallace and Gromit were both protagonists while the skiing robot was the antagonist.

Setting:
The film starts off in the basement of Wallace and Gromit's house as they build a rocket ship to get to the moon. It then transitions to the moon where they meet the antagonist.

Mood:
The mood at the beginning is comical while they build their rocket ship. Once on the mood it is very casual until the robot comes to life. At this point things go south. The mood then gets very intense as Wallace and Gromit frantically try to escape the moon.

Climax:
The climax is when Wallace and Gromit are being sabotaged by the robot as they tried to escape the moon.

Resolution:
At the end Wallace and Gromit escape and the robot got to keep pieces of the rocket ship which he uses to ski with.

A close shave.

Wide shot: 6:08
Full shot: 14:20
Medium shot: 7:30

This is what I got done before the video was taken down.

Close Reading

Title/opening credits:
The title was selected because it is comical. It also foreshadows the rest of the film. The opening credits look like something from an old fashion cartoon which sets the mood for the rest of the film.

Story/Plot?Narrative:
Wallace buy Gromit a pair of trousers for his birthday. This sends them into debt which causes them to go into debt. They rent out a room to pay off the debt and the penguin who rents it is really a criminal. He kicks out Gromit and uses the trousers to do a heist. Gromit catches the penguin and they use the reward money to pay off the debt.

Motif:
The biggest motif is the lightning. You see lightning at the opening scene and you also see it a lot when the camera is on the penguin. Also whenever Gromit and the penguin are int he same shot, they seem to lock eyes.

Characterization:
The main characters are Wallace, Gromit, and the penguin. Wallace and Gromit are smart, they have all these contraptions built but they live a simple life. The penguin is very clever. He dresses up as a chicken when he commits a crime and he uses Wallace and Gromit to stage his heist. There were no minor characters.

Scene and Sets:
The entire film was filmed on a set, since it was a claymation. The contraptions that are located all throughout the house are used by the penguin and Wallace and Gromit alike. Wallace and Gromit use them for daily tasks while the penguin uses them to set up his heist. The set is kind of important since it could have been shot somewhere else and still conveyed the message.
